Nanofiltration is a process which is concerned with the treatment of industrial process water and drinking water.
Drinking water:
The presence of chloride, sulphate and fluoride is reduced

Industrial process water:
Paper mills and iron & metal industry require partial softening and lessening of humus and color from surface water.
Nanofiltration or reverse osmosis ?
Reverse osmosis or RO is used to demineralize the water. This process includes large array of applications. On the contrary, Nanofiltration is a process which is used for reducing waste components, partly or completely. This process applies lower pressure (approx. 7 bar) which results in less consumption of energy, in contrast to reverse osmosis, but with equal productivity.
Potential demineralization has the ability to make the water aggressive, which results in corrosion in the pipes or supply network. Due to this fact, a nanofiltration plant is preferred as it provides a specific hardness.
